Afriyie Barnieh nets brace to secure win for FC Aarau

Ghanaian forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh scored a double to propel FC Aarau to a resounding 3-0 win over FC Stade Lausanne-Ouchy in the Swiss Challenge League on Monday evening.
Afriyie Barnieh delivered a standout performance by scoring twice to ensure FC Aarau maintained its top spot as they bid for top-flight promotion next season.
The former Hearts of Oak talismanic forward opened the scoring for the Eagles with a superb strike in the 22nd minute of the game.
On the 63rd-minute mark, he compounded the woes of FC Stade Lausanne-Ouchy by netting the second before a 92nd-minute goal from Valon Fazliu sealed their big victory at the Stadion Brügglifeld, which extended FC Aarau’s unbeaten streak to five games.
The 24-year-old was a delight to watch in the fixture and lasted for the entire duration, with his compatriot David Acquah also delivering a masterclass performance in FC Aarau’s defence.

Afriyie Barnieh has now scored four goals in five league appearances for FC Aarau in his debut season.
The Kumasi-born attacker joined the second-tier club on a free transfer after mutually terminating his contract with Swiss Super League side FC Zurich after a two-and-a-half-year stay.
Afriyie Barnieh has been capped three times for the senior national team of Ghana since making his debut against Japan in an international friendly in 2022.
